The best time to photograph in the cemeteries is very late at night, when most of the parties have ended. I found this woman sitting alone at a grave in the old cemetery in Xoxocotlan at about 2:30 a.m., after everyone in my group had packed it in and gone back to the hotel for sleep. A big part of the festivities in the cemeteries is drinking mezcal, an alcoholic beverage similar to tequila, which is produced from agave that grows in the region. It's often difficult to turn the local people down when they offer to share some with you in a drink to friendship. And it does seem to help for the chilly night air...........So this adds another challenge to an already challenging photographic situation - the ability to hold seveal shots of mezcal while taking photographs in the dark............
